Critical Discourse Analysis on “Bright: An English” Textbook: Gender Equity in a Popular EFL School Textbook in Indonesia

Using Critical Discourse Analysis as an analysis tool, this study explores gender representation in the national EFL textbook “Bright: An English” for Eighth Grade Junior High School students, a book utilized Al-Ikhlas Lambuya School’s learning and teaching process. Fairclough's three-dimensional framework was used to examine data study. The aims see how roles are communicated equity is reflected textbook. To uncover power imbalance or disparity between males females, characteristics such male female visual representation, characters, social, domestic duties, semantic roles, activities were investigated. research revealed bias favour of men particular functions activities, becoming 'athlete,' engaging social events, participating sports. On other hand, dominance evident that students outnumber significantly. Nevertheless, discovered some equality terms pictorial roles. Although conventional behaviours associated with genders book, all equally portrayed position, power, domination. Furthermore, no ideology anti-feminism masculinity discussed text.
